ABOUT
I have been playing the saxophone for over 40 years, taught by Scottish musicians Stewart Forbes and Spike Bayne.
I progressed my goals by travelling to America, studying privately with Jamey Aebersold (2014, NEA Jazz Masters) and Professor Mike Tracy.
I regularly travel to America, to further develop this art form, with my most recent visit in July 2018. Additionally, I have studied with renowned musicians/educators including David Baker, Jerry Coker, David Leibman, Dan Haerle, Jim Snidero.
I offer saxophone tuition, combo and quartet playing.
In addition, I am qualified in brass and woodwind repairs, having graduated from Leeds College of Music.
TESTIMONIALS
"Colin is a serious student of jazz and a marvellous player/teacher. I first met him many years ago in Scotland when I held a week-long workshop there. We have been friends ever since."
- Jamey Aebersold, 2018
"I have known Colin MacKay for over thirty years as a student, fellow musician, and trusted friend. I have marveled at his unbroken dedication to studying and teaching jazz and improvised music. He is a dedicated educator who willingly shares his knowledge and love of the music with others. He sets a wonderful example for others by his continuing to work on his own performance skills. In addition, he is an excellent instrument repairman. Without question, Colin is a valued colleague."
- Mike Tracy, 2018
